About

Hello and welcome to Run-DMSteve World HQ. I stopped writing this blog in 2020 when an editor with surplus cash invited me to write for him. That was about the end of Run-DMSteve.

And yet this blog continues to receive visitors. Thank you! The post that consistently beats all others in views is “37 songs for a new job.” I don’t even remember what job that was. I am still receiving suggestions about songs about work. But for total audience participation, you can’t top the 110 bands that people suggested in August 2013 for “Let me count the ways” Week (bands with numbers in their name).

Readers enjoyed whatever I wrote about dogs (“Teddy Ballgame“) and my in-laws thought better of me after I memorialized their father (“Thank you for the birds“). Everyone online loves a list, and this one still gets some airplay: “The 14 best singing drummers.”

Visit the archives and the tag cloud. You might find something worth reading. Or not. At least it’s free.

And BTW, here are the two stories I most enjoyed writing for Copper:

The Secret History of Tribute Albums, Part I

The Secret History of Tribute Albums, Part II

If you want more of me, and who doesn’t, on my writing blog I write about writing my novel, writing in general, dogs of course, rubber-stamping old postcards, and the occasional comment on the state of the world.

Thanks for reading. I’ll try not to bore you, but I’m not making any promises.

Tango knows we could all use a good smile.

Loved the piece on your dad on Veteran’s day.

  2. Love the item on Talking Heads, and Stop Making Sense if by far my favourite concert video. But Bartók and cement mixers (“Qu’est-ce que c’est?”) – give me a job on a Portland building site, please!

    Hey Steve,

As I struggle to stay musically hip I find myself surrendering to my first love, 70’s kitch! I say if you love ABBA, Carpenters, Boney M, Barry Manilow, Nancy Sinatra, embrace it!!!

Mama Mia! And to think we’ve only just begun. Here at Run-DMSteve World HQ, music and fashion are always the passion. But that Nancy — “Open the gates and let the river free”? There was a cat that really was gone.
